SELLING OF MY SHARES

I have just logged on after several years to my Freetrade Account. I purchased shares and left it to grow. I am literally shaking with outrage because Freeteade notified vis the app to advise me they would sell my shares if I don’t complete a form. I received not proper formal notification via email… or any normal legalised way. Since I don’t receive notifications I never knew anything about this. HELP PLEASE… what can I do now? Legal authorities , is there any institutions that protects the rights of customers and their shares. I have read now that brokers are not allowed to sell shares without permission. Any thoughts? I am devastated.

I’m guessing you failed to complete your w-8ben form?

They’re only valid for a few years at a time, it’s your responsibility to ensure you in compliance with US regulations regarding your US shares you hold. Freetrade can’t hold them if you don’t have the right forms.

They will have also emailed you. Several months before it expired

Hey!

Thanks for reaching out! I’ve sent you a private message to ask for a bit more detail, so I can pass it on to our customer ops team.

Best,
Patryk

Is the part of Freetrade TOC?
Without w-8ben you would pay tax, may be Freetrade doesn’t want to get into the complexity.
