Dividends in Activity feed 💸

Will this be applied retroactively? Or will it show information from implementation date only? I think it would be beneficial to show dividend info from inception of Freetrade and not only from the moment it’s implemented for it makes a better looking, more consistent building

I received a dividend from Apple yesterday. My email and account said the amount of dividends I received was £10.74. However, my account balance is showing £9.60. So clearly something funny is going on.

So I think it would be useful to show cash balances after each transaction as unless I get out a spreadsheet and input all my transaction for the month it’s not easy to check whether the payments are correct.

Yeah I have something similar. Just the one share in Apple and dividend said 59p but account only added 55p. If it’s less tax that’s fine but confusing if activity feed states one figure and actual cash balance is different

Is that the amount before the 15% withholding tax?

I would assume it is post tax.

The dividend amounts in my activity feed are post-tax for US shares

Can you check again? My email displays the same amount as in my activity feed (post-tax). Not sure if it was different previously as I wasn’t aware of the email at first, but looks to me like it’s working fine (although I don’t know how much cash I actually received as I already had some cash in my account).

Yesterday I was trying to find out if I’d been paid a dividend (in this case it was for Greggs), and I was struggling because (as I subsequently discovered) it was paid out just prior to dividends appearing in the activity feed, so I didn’t have an email or an activity item, in fact it was one of many comms on the support/help system where I eventually found the details.

After support had confirmed this was the case, I asked if dividends were supposed to be backfit into the activity feed (I had an idea this was the plan, but couldn’t recall); I have yet to receive an answer 24 hours later (apparently waiting for an answer from the Operations Team who must only communicate via carrier pigeon).

Anyway, I thought I’d see if perhaps I could find an answer on here, and look what I see:

Been more than a few weeks since that post and no indication that this is being delayed for any specific reason (perhaps you wanted to get the upgrade to Invest out of the way? I’d be fine if that’s the case, but at this point we’re all in the dark here).

Any updates, @Gemhappe??

Hi, I’m really sorry we’ve not yet backfilled Dividends in your activity feed. :woman_facepalming: The Operations team has been focused on the Invest by Freetrade upgrades, which has delayed this work. Don’t worry it’s not been forgotten, we’re aiming to get this done by the end of the tax year!

Hopefully your aim is to get it done long enough before the end of the tax year so that people who need this information for their tax returns are able to access it in time!

Thanks for the update. Gemma.

There will be lots of buying opportunities later this year after this global market correction. Good time to do the upgrades.

Deadline for submitting 19/20 return is 31st January 2021, so it really doesn’t need to be long before the end of the tax year.

I usually submit my tax return on the 7th of April, unless it’s not open yet. Get those refunds early!

Anyone else getting emails and notifications for dividends going back months? I know they are back populating the feed but I don’t really need a push notification about dividends I got in november

I’ve had about 30 notifications today

Yep, and I got an in-app message a day or two ago warning me this was what they would be doing.

It’s coding priorities. There’s already a process for adding dividends to your activity feed, and it automatically creates push notifications and emails.

Writing a new process to add old dividends to your activity feed without triggering push notifications would be time consuming and take development resources away from other tasks. It may also need an app update, and updates through both app stores can take weeks to propagate.

Updating the existing code so that it temporarily doesn’t trigger notifications risks introducing bugs.

I got that, I didn’t read it properly, didn’t realise there were going to be push notifications and emails

Not a big deal, just my phone has been buzzing all day

Sounds like a good problem to have in the grand scheme of things!
